Demolished Building


A two-storey property whose ground floor and entrance was lower than the level of the road. Both number 2 and number 4 were single-roomed dwelling occupied by 2 or 3 adults. Mill House was a much taller structure, with four rooms, built into a steep bank. The occupant was Elizabeth Carr, recorded in the 1891 census as a 'bread sampler-baker' who worked at the nearby flour mill (HER 5161). In 1901 she was caretaker of the flour mill. In 1891 there were a total of 15 rooms occupied by 37 people, including a carter, a chain horse driver, an earthenware presser, two transferrers in an earthenware manufactory, a road paver, a blacksmith, a labourer. Behind Mill House was Dolman's Yard.
