1895 September 20th. The steamer CONSTANTINE, inward bound, was rounding the South Pier end, when she collided with the steamer TREVETHICK, outward bound. The CONSTANTINE was so badly damaged that she sank inside the harbour, close to the South Pier end. The lifeboats JAMES YOUNG, coxswain James Turnbull, and TOM PERRY, coxswain John L Burn, were launched. The crew of the CONSTANTINE, 17 in number, were picked up by the JAMES YOUNG
