Wreckage

During the great gale of February 10th 1871, there were six casualties in the estuary: the REMEMBRANCE...JANE of Shields...ANN...JABEZ...BRITISH QUEEN...and VALLIANT...all were wrecked on the Herd Sand. The lifeboats TYNE and NORTHUMBERLAND went off to the rescue with great success, except in the case of the JABEZ, which broke up so quickly, that all the crew were drowned.'
