South Shields, Herd Sand, Mary Ann
1823 incident in which an English cargo vessel grounded on the Herd Sand in gales in attempting to return to her departure point of Shields. Bound for London with coal, she was a wooden sailing vessel and was later recovered. The crews and materials were saved.
