          Description
A map of 1811 (reference not given) shows the surface dispositions of Benwell Colliery. This includes a waggonway running west from Delaval Pit to a coal staith east of the inclined plane (HER 4082). The line is not shown on a map of 1826 (Turnbull 2009, 119) but re-appears on Bell’s map of 1847 with staiths now to the west of the inclined plane.
