Description
Probable prehistoric features were recorded during an evaluation in 2016 and subsequent excavations in 2018-19. These remains dated predominantly to the Iron Age with a radiocarbon date of c. 696 - 397 cal BC as well as spelt wheat grains identified in linear gullies and hammerscale identified in a ring gully.
Evidence of residual Mesolithic and Neolithic activity was also identified with a lithic end scraper identified in a posthole and an early Neolithic broken blade and part of a Neolithic or Bronze Age fabricator tool recovered from an Iron Age ring-gully.
