Dock and Harbour Installation
The 1st edition Ordnance Survey plan shows at least 16 staiths (HER refs. 2112-2120) associated with the dock, its basin and lock. This was the first enclosed dock on the Tyne, covering an area of 55 acres. It opened in 1857.
