Description: Isaac Charles Johnson was a pioneer of the cement industry, and was known as the Grand Old Man of Gravesend. He was a Justice of the Peace and was Mayor of Gateshead in 1864. The cement works on the quayside had previously been owned by William Aspdin, who was Johnson's great rival.
