Tyne and Wear HER(5908): Newcastle, Town Moor, bell pit - Details
Newcastle, Town Moor, bell pit
A ring-bank, measuring 14.5 metres in diameter with banks 0.4 metres high, surrounds a central depression which is 0.3 metres deep. At first investigation this feature looks as if the 3 metres rig, which runs east to west down the slope, extends over the top of it. It is likely that the furrows of the rig here have been re-dug as drains damaging the top of the spoil heap.
