Structure

Late C18 and early C19 walls, part brick, part stone, with stone coping, support spearhead wrought iron railings with iron stays. Five pairs of stocky rusticated piers, with cornices and ball finials, hold wrought iron gates. Verniculate rusticated retaining walls to south-east. Historical note: Church Street was made in 1790 to give a better gradient than Bottle Bank, but all the buildings in it, except the Church, were removed when the new Tyne Bridge was built in 1927-29.
