Description
1998-9 by David Paton. A large non-local Portland stone carved with abstract representations of spires, plus locally-hewn sandstone blocks carved with trefoil windows and columns [inspired by Durham Cathedral]. There are letters on the boulders which spell out the word COAL and BLACK SEAMS PAY FOR ALL WE SURVEY. Commissioned by City of Sunderland, English Partnerships and RJB Mining (UK) Ltd.
