Description
36 Front Street was built as a townhouse in the mid-18th century. It is a three storey 5 (formerly 7) bay brick building with a cellar, a string course, a slate roof and a 19th century single storey extension to the rear. During the 19th century it was a Temperance Hotel, and in the 20th century it was used as a bakery and a school, undergoing alterations to the doorways and windows. Further alterations were made following World War II when the building became the Tynemouth Branch Library, which closed in February 2020.
