Description
A 19th century public house. Locals say that it was formerly a ropeworks and a house. It was extended at its western end in the later 20th century. Pitched gables have been added to the south elevation and the first floor rendered, painted white and timber boarding added. Joe Horn was listed as beer retailer in Ward's directory 1915. This may mean that the Tavern was a beerhouse (cottage with a room for selling beer) rather than an inn.
This building was added to the South Tyneside local list in 2023.
