Shown on Ordnance Survey second edition. This was the rebuilt Newcastle Tavern. Bought by WB Reid in 1892, rebuilt in 1926. George Braviner ran the Newcastle Arms for just over 40 years, renting it from WB Reid in 1952. It is believed to be the only pub in Newcastle permitted to display the city's coat of arms. The pub had three rooms. The Newcastle Arms had a juke box and was the first in Newcastle to have a television set. This was in a select room at the back. It was so popular that customers crowded in and sat on the floor to watch it. The Newcastle Arms was also the first pub in the city to have a colour television. The pub, under George Braviner, was famous for it's catering, serving rabbit, ham, corned beef, chicken and turkey sandwiches and soup. The kitchen provided 78 pubs, clubs and shops with sandwiches. Later the pub was renamed the 'Pump House'. Now Fever.
