An area of WW2 aircraft obstructions at Ryton Haugh. Formed by a network of continuous ditches with adjacent upcast banks of spoil, covering an area measuring around 700m by 400m. The ditches have been destroyed by later development. This is the site of Blaydon Race Course and later Stella South Power Station.

During World War Two RAF Woolsington was a grass flying field equipped with Bellman and Blister aircraft hangars as well as civilian hangars. By 1944 its function was a storage and maintenance unit attached to 43 Group. Post-war prior to 1985, the airfield was expanded and redeveloped as a civil airport. Two large structures are visible on aerial photographs of 1946.

A probable waggonway of post medieval period seen as a cropmark and earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1988. Continues the line of Walbottle Moors Waggonway (HER 4271). After a gap, the waggonway continues as an earthwork running towards a mine at Prestwick Pit just north of Black Callerton Hill.
