Description
By Carol Sommer, Sue Downing and William Herbert. A 140m long stream of text on stainless steel. The text comes from Roman messages, texts from the time of King Charles I and from text messages collected in 2002 on the day of the Newcastle and Sunderland derby, translated into SMS text form. William Herbert has written a response refering to the Skinner Burn which flows under the street. Commissioned by Grainger Town Partnership and Newcastle City Council.

Description
2003 by Danny Lane. Next to The Gate. A 9m high glass sculpture, made up of six separate glass monoliths held together by a steel post-tensioning rod, standing on a stainless steel plinth with a hole punched through it. Commissioned by Grainger Town Partnership. The name is a play on words based on its form of the intersection of two circles (or elipses) like the eclipse of the moon or sun. Unveiled in March 2005. Description
2002 by Nigel Boonham. A 3m high bronze sculpture of Cardinal Hume dressed in Benedictine habit, cardinal's skullcap and the cross of St. Cuthbert. The statue stands on a sandstone platform in the shape of Holy Island (Lindisfarne) within a garden which reflects his love of Northumbria and the Northern Saints. There is a sandstone platform in the shape of Inner Farne - where St Cuthbert and St Aidan lived as hermits, a boulder taken from Inner Farne and a 3 ton boulder from below Lindisfarne Castle inscribed with Caedmon's Hylm of the 7th century. There is one more stone, from the monk's quarters at Ampleforth Abbey, Basil Hume's monastic home. Unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II on May 7th 2002. Commissioned by the Cardinal Hume Memorial Trust and Newcastle City Council with funding from Public Subscription and Grainger Town Partnership.
