Unveiled 15th July 1922 by the Duke of Northumberland. The 12m high monument is made of white Dalbeattie granite. The builder was Messrs. J.H. Robinson of Meldon. The architect was Messrs. Harrison, Ash & Blythe of Newcastle. "THEIR BODIES ARE BURIED IN PEACE BUT THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE THE FOLLOWING HAVE MADE THE GREAT SACRIFICE". 208 names are listed for WW1 ans 141 names fr WW2. The war memorial was vandalised in 1995 and four plaques were removed. These were replaced and the monument rededicated in July 1998.

Office block at left. Bath hall at right. Rusticated ground floor. Round-arched entrances for MEN and WOMEN flank Diocletian window in projecting central bay. Renewed glazing. Now stands empty. Only one of three pre-1914 swimming baths in Tyne and Wear (the others are Gibson Street, Newcastle and Byker). Closed in 1989. Recorded 2015 ahead of proposed conversion to office and warehouse space. Most of the buildings are related to the baths and many original (1912) features survive, despite mid-late 20th century modifications.
