School. C1900. Bright red brick with terracotta dressings and slate roof. Symmetrical with 2 storeys. Left corner has pentice roof on 2 storey porch, with fat terracotta columns on brick base, over steps up to doors. One window beside it and two above. Flanking sections have 3 windows on each floor. Stair towers between these have small windows. Rood parapet. Mullion and transom windows with glazing bars. Pyramids with lucarnes over towers. Long central roof with 5 dormers and ridge ventilator with domed top. LISTED GRADE 2

Parish church. 1874. By JP Pritchett. Thin uneven courses of rubble with ashlar dressings and red sandstone nookshafts. Stone slate roof. High chancel, 5-bay nave, north porch and north-east tower. Late C13 style. Geometric tracery to east window. Spire taken down 1982.
Interior – high chancel arch. Scissor-braced roof on moulded corbels. Painted stone reredos. Octagonal stone font with high relief panels of evangelists. Pews panelled with shaped ends. High quality glass in east window shows Christ in Glory with Passion and Crucifixion, commemorating Martha Short, wife of George Short (shipbuilder) d.1893. West window in north aisle by Powell & Bros. Leeds, to George Short, d.1863, in medieval style showing Noah and Ark, and St. Joseph the carpenter. LISTED GRADE 2

No. 95 has central renewed door in architrave with MILL VIEW COTTAGE inscribed in stone plaque above cornice. Flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. Renewed sashes, pointed arched heads to renewed end windows. Date 1874 in panels in gable peak.
These houses have sociological as well as architectural interest, representing the Sunderland single-storey cottage which was the preferred house-type for C19 working class housing in the town. In similar streets elsewhere in the Durham Coalfield, the larger houses would be for colliery officials. LISTED GRADE 2

Public house. Dated 1901. By W and TR Milburn. Brick with black granite plinth, red granite bar front pilasters, and sandstone ashlar copings and brick chimneys. L-plan, with square tower at left on return to Cromwell Street. Modified Queen Anne style.
Exterior – 3 storeys. Bar front along south elevation to Hylton Road has high granite plinth recessed in Scotia moulding. Red granite pilasters and stone imposts support stone arches over doors. Sash windows.
Interior – shows front bar altered but halls, doors and other rooms little altered. Halls have dado, Art Nouveau doors and fittings, closed string stair with moulded square balusters, top gallery, big panelled newel and grip handrails. Rear left sitting room has fully tiled walls and fittings which include painted tile pictures of Durham Cathedral, Newcastle High Level Bridge, Monkwearmouth Railway Bridge, Finchale Priory, Marsden Rock, Bamburgh and Cragside. Signed “Craven, Dunhill & Co Ltd. Jackfield”. Dado with frieze, cornice, quadrant cornice bar, all rich colours and patterns. Stucco modillion ceiling cornice to pressed paper ceiling. Painted glass window panels set above renewed bench seats show pseudo C17 inn scenes of eating and drinking. Landing window has similar picture. Upper rooms have Art Nouveau bar fittings and chimney-pieces, large room above has pilasters and coved ceiling with scroll brackets. LISTED GRADE 2*
