Imposing continuation of the adjoining late Gothic Revival chapel. Designed by Dunn Hansom & Fenwicke (who designed the Catholic cathedral in Newcastle) 1938 for the Filles de la Sagesse. Sandstone with slate roof. Three storeys with basement. Elegant arrangement of windows. {1}. Recorded 2013 by Archaeological Services Durham University.Buildings appear to have been planned in the early 1920s but not constructed until 1928.

Early to mid 19th century farm outbuilding. Single storey. Sandstone. Later used as a school laundry. Mural of school children painted on gable end {1}. The laundry building is set well below the level of the convent (HER14787) and the old farm buildings. Inside the buildings show no sign of any other use other than the schools laundry. Probably last used in the mid 1970s. Recorded 2013 by Archaeological Services Durham University.

1814 incident in which a Danish galliot grounded on the Herd Sand on her arrival at Newcastle upon Tyne from Larvik, and was later recovered. Laden with deals and spars, she was a wooden sailing vessel. Crew saved.

1784 wreck of British collier which stranded on the Herd Sand during a storm; a wooden sailing vessel. [the NMR has another Good Design, a craft, sinking in 1784 north of Sunderland, NMR NZ 45 NW 424. Presumably the same ship]. `Newcastle, Dec. 11, 1784...Sunday night about 9 o'clock a strong wind sprung up from the east, and about midnight the hurricane was most violent, attended with a very heavy fall of hail and show, which continued with unremitting fury till Tuesday noon, when it began to abate; but that night it blew again very hard, till Wednesday at noon, when the wind became moderate; but the snow continued at intervals till Thursday, when it fell very severe during the whole day, and continues yet at intervals… At sea it has been dreadful beyond description, all along the coast being strewed with wrecks, and vessels on ground, so that from every part we hear of nothing but distress; nor may we ever perhaps be able to get a perfect account of the loss of ships. The following is the best, which can be procured at present. Craft wrecked in the great east-south-east gale which blew up on 4th January 1854 lasted for five days. Each day of that gale, the three lifeboats were launched repeatedly.
