1998 by Antony Gormley. A 20m high figure of a man with aeroplane wings instead of arms. Rust brown. Made of oxidising corten steel. The former pit heap on which the statue stands was reclaimed in 1989. In 1994 Antony Gormley was chosen to develop a design for a sculpture for the site. The artist worked with Ove Arup who designed the 20m deep piles which hold up the statue. It was funded with money from the Lottery, European Regional Development Fund, Northern Arts and others. Hartlepool Fabrications Ltd made the statue between May 1997 and February 1998. The body and wings were bolted and welded into place on site using two large cranes. The complete statue was inaugurated on Monday 16th February 1998.

1996 by Maurice O' Connell. A bronze relief of ridges and lettering, set into a circular low stone wall base. The artist worked with Harlow Green Infants School. The piece was commissioned by Gateshead MBC as part of the 'Four Seasons' project for the Year of Visual Arts UK. It is meant to represent winter.

1986 by Richard Cole. A sculpture in stone blocks and earth 30m long and 15m wide. The granite blocks came from the old Scotswood Bridge. Resembles a fortification on the top of the hill, a former colliery pit heap. Known locally as 'the fortress'.

1995 by Fred Watson. Located in the courtyard of the Tranwell (mental health) Unit. A sculpture in white granite consisting of an arch and a stairway of books, a telephone, tablecloth, a vase and an apple. The artist says that it is designed to show the delicate balance of mental health (Newcastle Journal, 13 December 1995). Only accessible by permission.

1997 by Wendy Marshall. A small stone carving of the sun, clouds and oak leaves. Marks the entrance to the park. There are other sculptures within the park including a bronze mole, a frog and many wooden carvings.

1996 by William Pym with writing by Kathleen Raine from her poem 'The Healing Spring'. Located at the junction with the Killingworth Waggonway. A silver gate in galvanised steel 1.3m high and 8.4m wide with a large cut-out moth and cut lettering "PATIENTLY THE EARTH'S WOUNDS CLOSE. THE WOMB HEALS OF ITS SONS. AS BARK OVER A TORN BRANCH GROWS". West of the gate is a panel containing wildlife and other objects. Funded by Sustrans, North Tyneside Council and the Rising Sun Countryside Park. Part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network sea to sea (C2C).

1986 by Colin Rose. Steel sculpture in 'pocket park' next to the Whickham House Pub. There are two open squares, a sphere, curved elements and a rod inside the upper square. The piece cost £7,600 and was funded by Gateshead MBC, Whitbread Brewery, Northern Arts and the Arts Business Sponsorship Association. It was made by Manpower Services Commission trainees. The sculpture was moved by a metre in 1999.

1996 by Matthew Jarratt and Neil Canavan. Two cut steel sculptures and a steel bench next to a cycle track crossing Hebburn Riverside Park. Further south is another steel marker and a carved brick sculpture. The steel markers are painted yellow and red, and comprise of a compass surrounded by a cut-out bird, diver's helmet, crane and lighthouse. The bench is painted green and has cut-out animals and plants set into its back. Commissioned by Tyne and Wear Development Corporation.

1994 by Chris Sell assisted by Primetime Sculptors. Two high-backed wooden chairs set against a hedge overlooking fields towards Birtley. Each chair is carved in relief with designs in contrasting yellows and greens - the left chair has a farmer and tractor on the top and a plough and harness on the front, the right chair has a miner in a bucket on the top and a shovel on the front. Commissioned by Gateshead MBC.

1994 by Gilbert Ward. A low stone boulder carved with an insect. 50cm high, 1.5m long and 46cm wide. Commissioned by the Great North Forest.
